He also received the status of Fellow from the American Psychological Association for his scientific contributions to the field of clinical psychology and behavioral medicine, and he has been honored with numerous other awards for his pioneering research in this field.

Dr. Lawlis has served on the medical school faculties of New York Medical Center, Texas Tech Medical School, the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio and Dallas, and at Stanford Medical School. He has directed new studies and has documented various approaches to the care of patients with chronic and acute pain, cancer, and psychosomatic problems.

In addition, Dr. Lawlis is also the supervisory psychologist for American Mensa - a national organization whose members have scored in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test.
